Our Sustainability Commitment
From spawn to supply, the right way.
At Monterey Nutra, sustainability is built into how we operate every day. With more than 55 years of cultivation expertise, we design our systems to protect natural resources, support our teams, and deliver the consistency and quality our partners depend on.
Sustainable by Design
We focus on practical, measurable practices that reduce impact and strengthen our supply chain:
Solar-powered cultivation and production facilities
Efficient water systems designed to minimize waste
Locally and nationally sourced substrate materials
These choices help us grow responsibly while ensuring a dependable, long-term source of functional mushroom ingredients.
Smart Substrate Management
Our substrates start with renewable, U.S.-sourced materials, including compost made from local racehorse bedding or straw, organic sorghum from small family farms, and reclaimed hardwood sawdust diverted from landfills. After harvest, spent substrate is repurposed as a soil amendment for agriculture and landscaping, extending its use and reducing waste.
Resource Efficiency That Scales
Mushrooms naturally require less water than many crops. We take that advantage further through controlled irrigation and rainwater capture for compost production. By sourcing closer to home, we also reduce transportation impact and strengthen the supply chain behind every ingredient.
